Collection Development Policy

Collection Development Policy Purpose:

A collection development policy is a written document that assists staff in selecting materials, evaluating and maintaining the collection, which includes weeding (the withdrawal of materials). No budget is large enough to allow the purchase of every resource published. This policy will guide staff in making selections which meet community needs within the given budget.

History

The Perry Cook Memorial Public Library began with a bequest from the estates of Perry and Belle Cook, who left $15,000 for the creation, in the Johnsville community, of a public library.  Our doors opened for the first time in 1961, for just a few hours a day, a few days a week.  Since then, the library has been renovated twice and, with the purchase of an adjacent property, completed an addition that tripled the square footage of the building in 2009.

Donations

At this time the Perry Cook Memorial Public Library has neither a Friends of the Library group, nor a foundation.  However, financial donations may be made at the circulation desk during normal business hours.  We are accepting book donations, but reserve the right to turn donations away if space becomes limited.

We thank you for thinking of the library.

Public Internet Use

Public Internet Use Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to affirm the library's role in providing public access to the Internet and to clarify patron responsibilities associated with Internet use in the library.

Internet use in the library means using the library's network to access the Internet either on library workstations or through a wireless connection.

Principles

Public access to the Internet is integral to Perry Cook Memorial Library's mission to nourish minds, transform lives, and build community together.

Your library card

The Perry Cook Library offers a library card to any Ohio resident.  To apply for the card you will need a completed application, available proof of your current address (utility bill, bank statement, lease agreement) and a photo ID.

A parent or guardian must sign for any patrons under 18 years old.

You library card must be presented every time you check out materials or use the public computers.  Your first library card is on us, but replacements are $1.00 each.  .

Book Kits

Perry Cook has a variety of book kits available for checkout.  These book kits can be checked out whenever you need multiple copies of the same book, such as classroom reading, book clubs, or home school groups.

The number of books in each kit varies by title, but additional books can be ordered through the SEO Consortium if you are in need of additional copies.

See the attached list below for titles by author and number of copies in the kit.
